Is Rey from Star Wars a Fashion Icon?

Ever since The Force Awakens hit the big screen people have been loving all things Star Wars. The film was a massive hit, even managing to introduce new fans to the franchise. For the first time ever a Star Wars film had a female lead, Rey, an orphan from Jakku who unknowingly possessed the powers of the force. She was awesome, heroic and a great inspiration to geeky girls everywhere. But is she a fashion icon as well?

Since the film was released and the popularity of this character rose, I have noticed a certain fashion trend that appears to be influenced by Daisy Ridley's Rey. Every shop I go in seems to have the 'cold shoulder' trend in stock and it definitely bears a resemblance to Rey's girl power inspiring outfit. So, yes I think Rey is definitely a trend setter and to celebrate her stylishness I've picked out my favourite cold shoulder looks to share with you.

Firstly I found this dusty pink skater dress from ASOS. I love the frilly shoulder accents as it adds a girly touch to what would otherwise be quite a plain dress. I have received so many complements when wearing this dress so it is clearly a popular look. I teamed the dress with a silver necklace and nude wedges. The cut out shoulders definitely remind me of our Star Wars heroine’s look from the film.

I also found this gorgeous silver plisse dress from Top Shop. Once again this dress is encompassing the cold shoulder trend inspired by Rey. This dress isn't the usual style I would go for as it actually reminds me of 1920’s fashion. However, when I tried it on I absolutely loved it and knew I had to have it. The lace detailing on the sleeves is beautifully delicate and the tie around the waist makes the dress gorgeously figure hugging. I think this dress would be perfect for the Christmas party season.

There we have it, those are my two favourite Rey inspired looks, but there are so many more to choose from as almost everyone seems to be sporting the cold shoulder look.

I think it's fabulous that a character from a science fiction film has had such a big impact on the fashion industry. It just goes to show how important it is to include strong inspiring female characters in films, as they are clearly very influential. You've got to love a bit of girl power!

What do you think about this Rey inspired fashion trend? Let me know in the comments. I would love to hear your thoughts.

My MCM ComicCon Experience

MCM’s London Comic Con has been and gone in the blink of an eye and I had a fabulous time enjoying all the geeky goings on at the event.
It seemed super busy this year with the ExCell exhibition centre being packed out with cosplayers and nerdy fans alike. Even before I got to the event I was spotting people dressed as Harley and The Joker on the tube. It's always exciting arriving at comic con and the queues are never boring as you are continually entertained by spotting amazing cosplayers. For example near me in the entrance queue was a very tall Gandalf The Grey, a young Deadpool, Spinelli from Recess and a whole host of other characters from nerd culture. It was brilliant. I always am amazed by the quality of peoples cosplays and the time and effort they put into creating their outfits.

When I finally got inside the venue I couldn't decide what to see first as I was thoroughly spoilt for choice. I made my way around the art stalls where lots of extremely talented artists were exhibiting their geek themed work. There was so much amazing art to choose from. I bought these super cute cartoon Star Wars pictures that I fell in love with instantly.

I then weaved my way through the masses of exhibitors while admiring all of their geek themed merchandise. One thing I noticed is that MCM's London Comic Con now seems to cover a wider range of fandoms than ever before. Whether you're interested in anime, manga, sci-fi, fantasy, comics, games or anything else geeky, I'm pretty sure you would find something you enjoy at this awesome event.
MCM also provided fans with the opportunity to meet cast members of their favourite geeky films and shows. I decided not to pay to meet any of the celebrities at this event but I did spot Warwick Davis and Peter Davison as I passed by their stands.

There were so many cool things to see and do at this Comic Con so I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I even got to pose as a ghostbuster by a gargantuan Stay Puft Marshmallow Man statue. But I have to say my highlight of this Comic Con was definitely being a queen for a few moments as I sat on the famous Iron Throne!

Comic Con is such a wonderful way of celebrating nerd culture and I love it to bits. I had such a wonderful day exploring all there was to see and I can't wait till next time. If you've never been to an event like this, I highly recommend it.
